I first tasted Tahini Cake on a trip to Greece, brought back by my father to Australia.

Wholemeal flour, raw brown sugar, orange juice and zest, walnuts, raisins and tahini make a wholesome, nutritious cake for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Tahini—made from toasted sesame seeds—is high in protein, fiber and healthy fats; I prefer dark, unhulled tahini for extra fiber (brands I use: Macro or Mayvers).

This vegan, cinnamon-and-orange cake is zesty, rich and aromatic—my parents had it with tea or coffee, I ate it for breakfast, and my partner liked it with ice cream or custard.
